The 4th edition of this important event was held on 30th November 2016 at Tangier  (Morocco) with the territorial diplomacy in the Mediterranean as central theme.

In this disturbed area,  local and regional authorities are crucial to maintain constructive relationships in order to promote peace, social justice, sustainable development and human rights. They are acting through their cooperations,  their advocacy activities and their work to open their territories to the world.

During the Forum, Mediterranean elected representatives reminded theeir attachment to this diplomacy. They also  drew attention to the necessity in obtaining concrete results for citizens.

Recommandations from the Workshops of the UCLG Mediterranaen Commission (recommendationsworkshopssousse), first step of the Forum organised in Sousse, on 22&23 September, were discussed in order to improve cooperation between local and regional governments in the field of integrated territorial development and participation of youth in local governance. Recommendations were also about prerequisites on local finances to ensure a  good functioning of local governements.

Migration issues in the Mediterranean were discussed within a session on Mediterranean City-to-City Migration Project (MC2CM). Local and regional governments are particularly involved on this issue, on the ground by welcoming migrants and on the international scene by advocating for stronger pledges and actions.

This Forum was the occasion to celebrate 10 years of action of the Mediterranean Commission of UCLG in favour of Mediterranean elected representatives.
